Sandals Barbados

Barbados is well known as an exclusive jet setter’s paradise. But staying here doesn’t have to break the bank! After 7 nights at the all-inclusive Sandals Barbados Resort, I can safely say that 5-star service and luxury accommodations exceeded my expectations.
The pristine white sand of Dover Beach is unlike any beach I’ve been to. It’s spacious and quiet, making it perfect for lounging under the Caribbean sun. Whilst the adults only policy is ideal for a couple’s getaway.
An added bonus is the “Stay At 1 Play At 2” program that provides full access to the Sandals Royal Barbados resort right next to this location. This means 21 total restaurants, 11 pools, 14 bars, even a bowling alley. You are practically getting two resorts for the price of one!
The Beach
The beach at Sandals Barbados is expensive because it stretches the entire distance of both Sandals Barbados and Sandals Royal Barbados. Despite being on the southern tip of the Island that can be prone to a little wind, the waves were relatively calm. There are rock wave breakers about 75 feet out that make the water right off the beach nice and smooth.
There is plenty of privacy even though it’s close to popular public spots on Dover Beach and Maxwell Beach. The soft white sand was ideal for relaxing or taking a nice stroll down the coast.
As far as activities, there are options like kayaking, paddleboarding, hobby cats, and more. Unlike some of the other Sandals Resort locations, Sandals Barbados doesn’t offer motorized water sports like skiing and wakeboarding.
The views of the Caribbean Sea here standout with stunning shades of turquoise and blue. It definitely exceeded my expectations in terms of natural beauty. When I think of the picture perfect postcard of the Caribbean, this is it!
Here’s what to expect for a day on the beach at Sandals Barbados:
- The Beach: The white sand of Dover Beach is second to none in Barbados. Stretching for about a quarter mile, it is spacious and relatively private.
- The Water: The crystal clear Caribbean waters have incredible hughes of turquoise. It’s perfect for a swim and other activities since there are wave breaks that protect the beach from any choppy waters.
- Activities: Unlimited water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling, paddleboarding, kayaking and hobie cats are included. They also have beach volleyball which was a fun time to move around on the soft sand.
- Beach Bar: The Tiki Bar is located right on the beach, which is perfect for grabbing a tropical cocktail without having to worry about dress code.
- Lounging: Since the beach stretches from the Sandals Royal Barbados all the way to the Sandals Barbados, there are a lot of lounge chairs and umbrellas for shade if you want. It didn’t seem like there would ever be an issue finding a spot, especially if you have butler service.
- Beach Cabanas: You can reserve a private beach cabana with curtains, which comes with personal butler service at an extra cost. If you’re looking for a romantic escape for two, this is the best option for a beach day.
Restaurants & Bars
There are 11 specialty restaurants and 7 bars throughout Sandals Barbados offering delectable dishes and tropical cocktails that will leave you wanting more. Each restaurant has a unique theme so you can find the perfect setting for any occasion.
Remember that you also get full access to the neighboring Sandals Royal Barbados, which means 21 different restaurants to choose from in total.
Expert Tip: Get a private candlelight dinner for two that features a four course meal set right on the beach or in a location of your choice around the resort. For only $199 per couple, it’s a great way to celebrate a special occasion!
Here’s a breakdown of the restaurant options at Sandals Barbados:
- Butch’s Chophouse: Named after the founder of Sandals, Butch’s is a classic steakhouse serving up prime cuts and fine wines. It’s a top choice for special occasions since it has a luxurious atmosphere that perfectly compliments the fine dining experience. The surf and turf with filet mignon and fresh lobster is to die for. Note that reservations are required here.
- Kimonos: A super fun Japanese Teppanyaki restaurant. The chef slices and dices right in front of you, and might even flip a shrimp your way. It’s an entertaining way to enjoy dinner while meeting other guests. The jumbo shrimp and beef sirloin were very tasty! Make sure to get reservations as soon as possible as it fills up quickly.
- Schooner’s Seafood Grill: Overlooking the ocean on a beautiful terrace is Schooners, a seafood lovers paradise. The menu is filled with fresh catches and delicious local flavors. The grilled snapper is fantastic, and the guava cheesecake is maybe the best I have had.
- Portofino’s: Experience authentic northern italian cuisine in a cozy open air setting. I tried the costoletta di vitello (grilled veal), and it was very tasty. My wife had the Penne Alla Caminetto which was also excellent. They have breakfast here that starts at 7:30 am, and dinner is from 5:30 – 9:30 pm.
- Spices: Spices was my go to spot for their elaborate breakfast buffet that starts at 7:00 AM. The omelet station here is a game changer. It is definitely more of a low key spot with nice views of the ocean. The lunch menu features a buffet with a different theme every day. The Sunday Caribbean BBQ was a treat.
- Bombay Club: As the name suggests, this Indian restaurant features a rich blend of spices and authentic dishes for dinner. The ambiance here is very cool with hanging silks and elaborate rugs. My favorite dish was the Butter Chicken with Garlic Naan. Reservations are not required and the dress code is resort casual.
- The Merry Monkey Pub: This delightful English pub is tucked back in a secluded corner of the property. It’s a great place to grab a nightcap since it’s open until 2:00 AM. The menu features classic pub favorites like poutine and fish and chips.
- Café de Paris: A cute cafe that feels like you are transported to Paris. The patio has nice little bistro tables to enjoy a fresh pastry, crepes, or an espresso. And it’s open all day from 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM so you can grab a snack anytime the craving strikes.
- Soy Sushi: Attached to Kimonos restaurant is Soy, an intimate sushi bar offering fresh rolls and nigiri. It’s always fun to sit at the sushi bar and watch the chef make your order right in front of you. The bamboo interior is a nice touch. Dinner is from 6:00 – 10:00 PM here and you don’t need reservations.
- Dino’s Pizzeria Italiana: Dino’s makes amazing made-to-order pizzas. You can choose from a variety of toppings and they slide your pizza into the oven, and it’s ready in about 5 minutes. The thin and crispy crust is just my style. I recommend this spot for a quick lunch since it’s only open from 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM. But it’s conveniently located right by the main pool and the beach.
- The Mariner: This spot is located right on the beach which makes it perfect for happy hour cocktails. It’s open for lunch until 6:00 PM and features classics like hamburgers, quesadillas, and fish sandwiches. The vibe is super casual so you can just sit back and relax while you soak in the view of the Caribbean.
Aside from the restaurant options, there are several bars to choose from. The most lively was definitely the Piano Bar that features live music and is open until 2:00 AM. Here you can sing along to your favorites in a lively atmosphere.
Pools
Sandals Barbados has three primary pools and two whirlpools scattered around the property. The main pool is definitely the most lively and features a swim-up bar so you can enjoy a cocktail without leaving the water. This pool is also right next to the beach and offers fantastic views.
The European Pool is located in the center of the property. It has more of a laid back vibe. If you’re looking to do some reading or escape the activity, this is a great spot. There is also the Italian restaurant located here with a nice patio to grab lunch.
The Lagoon Pool stretches along the entire back of the property. This is the pool that has direct access to all of the swim-up suites. It’s a very unique design and is lined with palm trees so you can lounge comfortably under the warm Caribbean sun.
Fresh towels are available at all the pools. Each pool side has plenty of loungers to choose from. The friendly staff makes their rounds to get anything you need from snacks to refreshments.
Importantly, you also get access to all of the pools at neighboring Sandals Royal Barbados with their exchange program. This means you have 11 pools to choose from.
Here’s a quick breakdown of the pool amenities at Sandals Barbados:
- Main Pool: The main pool located along the beach and has the most activity out of all the pools. There is generally a live DJ by the pool until about 4:00 PM. The patio has enough loungers so you don’t need to worry about not getting a spot. There are also a couple of beach side restaurants and a swim-up bar with great ocean views.
- Lagoon Pool: The Crystal Lagoon pool weaves through the back of the property and has the swim-up suite access. It reminds me of a lazy river except it’s very large. Here you can float around and soak in the sun in a tranquil environment.
- European Pool: This pool is located toward the center of the property and offers a bit more of a relaxed option. The surrounding tropical gardens and palm trees create a tropical oasis.
- Swim-up Bars: The main pool has a nice swim-bar where you can enjoy tropical cocktails without leaving the water. The one downside is the swim up bars seemed to close around 5:00 PM, which is kind of early.
- Whirlpools: There are 2 whirlpools here, but I especially like the whirlpool right next to the shoreline that’s perfect for relaxing and enjoying the ocean views.
- Rooftop Pool: My favorite pool is the rooftop infinity pool which is actually over at the Royal Barbados. This has the best views of the ocean and for the sunset.
- Shared Privileges: Don’t forget that there’s shared access to Sandals Royal Barbados with the glass edged infinity pool, rooftop pool, and plenty more, which makes for 11 pools total!
Things To Do
The great thing about Sandals Barbados is there is so much to do that you can literally stay on the resort property the whole vacation. That said, you can always walk over to the Sandals Royal Barbados next door or go explore the natural beauty that Barbados has to offer so no two days are the same!
Activities At The Resort
I’m all about hanging out on the beach or relaxing by the pool when staying at a Sandals. But there’s something for everyone at Sandals Barbados when you’re looking for activities. From scuba diving to bowling, the options are endless!
For scuba diving, they offer 2 dives per day, depending on weather conditions. The morning excursions depart at 7:15 AM and offer two tanks since this session is less popular due to the early time. The afternoon sessions are only one tank.
Here are all the activities you can do at Sandals Barbados:
- Daily Scuba Diving: The certified diving program is a perfect way to explore Barbados while visiting some of the best dive sites around the Caribbean like shipwrecks or coral formations in Carlisle Bay. Training for first time divers takes just 3 and you are good to go for an open water dive, or you can take the 8 hour classroom portion online before your arrival.
- Unlimited Water Sports: Plenty of fun in the sun with snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, windsurfing, or hobie cats.
- Bowling: Try your hand bowling at “Lovers Lane”. Located over at Royal Barbados, you can have a blast bowling while enjoying a craft beer at the bar. There are 4 lanes there.
- Glass Bottom Boat Ride: Pending weather and water conditions, you can go for a cruise in the glass bottom boat. We spotted a lot of cool tropical fish, and if you’re lucky, you’ll see turtles or even stingrays.
- Tennis Courts: There are 8 tennis courts by the conference center at the Royal Barbados. You can also sign up for complimentary tennis lessons!
- Group Fitness Classes: Daily group fitness classes are available during the weekdays, including yoga, aqua aerobics, beach workouts, stretching, and plenty more. The class schedule for the week can be found online.
- Fitness Center: The fitness center has brand new equipment, free weights, and machines. It’s open 24 hours so you can workout anytime.
- Beach Volleyball: You can join a pickup game of beach volleyball which is not taken too seriously.
- Land Activities: Several other land based activities like pickleball, shuffleboard, pool tables, bocce ball, lawn chess, ping pong, and more.
- Red Lane Spa: The Red Lane Spa at Sandals Barbados offers a variety of treatments in an utterly serene setting. Aside from the massages, they have treatments including facials, manicures, body wraps, aromatherapy, and hydrotherapy.
Off-Site Adventures
Exploring the area around Sandals Barbados is a great way to experience the natural beauty and vibrant culture on the island. The nice thing is all of the excursions can be booked at the Island Routes desk in the main lobby of the resort or ahead of time on the website or app.
Here are my top five picks for off-site adventures around the resort:
- Explore Bridgetown: Just a short 15 minute drive from the resort, Bridgetown is filled with history and classic British colonial architecture. I love walking through the streets to explore the local shops. Trips are available for only $30 that include some sightseeing and shopping. And all of the purchases are duty free!
- Visit Hunte’s Gardens: Only about 20 minutes away, Hunte’s Gardens is a tropical paradise. This world renowned botanical garden contains a wide variety of Caribbean plants and rare birds. You can walk through the gardens and explore the majestic masterpiece of Anthony Hunte. Entrance to the garden is only $20.
- Catamaran Cruise: Sailing along the coast on a catamaran is a must-do. The cruise departs from Bridgetown and sails through the beautiful Carlisle Bay. It passes along the west coast and makes stops to snorkel at a shipwreck. A classic Caribbean lunch is served while you soak the sun in a secluded bay. For only $135 per person, it’s the perfect way to explore the island at a leisurely pace.
- Golfing: For all the golf lovers, there is a package that includes a round of 18 holes, golf cart, and transfers to and from the course. The par 72 course is absolutely gorgeous with tropical gardens and water features. The package costs $138 per person. Tee times can be made right on site at the resort.
- 4×4 Jeep Experience: One of the most famous Barbados experiences for adventure enthusiasts is a 4×4 Jeep tour. The Jeep explores the island’s Northeastern terrain like Joe’s River Forest and Edge Cliff, with interesting anecdotes along the way. Tours are $195 per person.
Nightlife And Entertainment
There is always entertainment at Sandals Barbados. At night the resort especially comes to life with live music and performance. Our personal favorite was the silent disco. Here was the schedule when we were here:
- Island Night: Steel pan music and local dancing
- Reggae Love: Amazing live reggae performances:
- White Night: Pop music and white clothes dress code
- Silent Disco: Dance around the resort with silent disco headphones
- Sandals Live: Live local bands
- Retro Night: Throwback live music like Michael Jackson, Kiss, etc.
- Piano Bar: A party at the Piano Bar with live piano and karaoke
You can also go to the different bars on the property like Calypso or the Piano bar which almost always have some action in the evening. These were my favorite spots and they are open until 2:00 AM.
Rooms And Suites Available
There are 14 different room categories with unique layouts, making it easy to find something for everyone’s needs and budgets. In all, Sandals Barbados has only 222 rooms varying between Luxury, Club, and Butler Level. Rooms in the Luxury Level Rooms will start at around $320 per person, per night.
We stayed in the Crystal Lagoon Swim-Up Butler Suite, which is located by the Crystal Lagoon pool and has direct access to the pool from your room. There is also a nice patio with tranquility soaking tub. The only drawback is that it’s not close to the beach, but that’s a trade off depending on your preferences. I would be remiss to not give a shout out to Asanne for the amazing service. That said, all accommodations will have the 5-star luxury experience Sandals Resorts is famous for.
- Luxury Level Rooms: The entry level rooms, Sandals Luxury, are ideal for guests wanting comfort at a more affordable price point. This category includes amenities like a private balcony, tranquility soaking tub, walk-in showers, large king-size bed, smart TV, and a premium mini bar. They generally have views of the tropical gardens or pools on the second floor. Overall, you still get the 5-star luxury service without the additional frills like Club Sandals access, butler service,or private pools. This can be completely fine for those that don’t plan on spending too much time in the room anyway!
- Club Level Rooms: Club Level rooms include all the benefits of the Luxury Level Rooms with some additional benefits. Some of the rooms might even be the same layout as the Luxury rooms, but with a beachfront view. Most of the Club rooms have beachfront walkouts, large private balconies, or swim-up access. Importantly, you will get access to the VIP Club Sandals Lounge. Yes, the rooms cost a little more, but not significantly.
- Butler Elite Level Suites: For couples seeking the ultimate in luxury and privacy, Butler suites offer personalized butler service. Not only that, but the suites themselves are absolutely incredible. For example, the Beachfront Penthouse here features a massive balcony overlooking the beach. My personal favorite suites are the Swim-Up Suites that have access right to the crystal lagoon pool. To communicate with your butler, they give you a smartphone when you check in so you can call or message them anytime between 7:00 AM – 10:00 PM. I would also advise to checkout the Royal Barbados as that is an all suite resort with amazing room options.
Included Amenities
Sandals Barbados brings new meaning to the term “all-inclusive” with the extensive list of offerings. When I compare all the dining options, activities, excursions, and luxurious rooms, the price is more than worth it to me.
Don’t forget that you get full access to Sandals Royal Barbados that is just a 5 minute walk next door. There are transfers that go back and forth as well so you can save effort from walking.
Let’s unpack everything that’s included:
- Unlimited Food And Beverages: Get unlimited dining at 11 unique restaurants and endless premium drinks. Don’t forget you can also go to Sandals Royal Barbados which means 20 restaurants in total.

- Top Shelf Wine and Spirits: Premium selections of wine and spirits like the Robert Mondavi, Johnnier Walker, Tanaqueray, Appleton Estate Rum, and more are available. Your suite comes fully stocked with a premium bar as well.
- White Sand Beach: This resort has one of the longest white sand beaches that Barbados has to offer since the two resorts are connected.
- Fitness Center: The 24 hour center has state of the art equipment and daily fitness classes.

There are plenty of optional extras like the couples massages, private candlelight dinners, beach cabanas, and tour excursions that can all be arranged at the resort or in advance.
Where It's Located
Sandals Barbados is located along the southern coast of the island in St. Lawrence Gap. The resort is only a 15 minute drive from the Grantley Adams International Airport (BGI). Airport transfers both ways are included no matter which room level you booked. Once you are exiting the airport, the Sandals Transfer stand will be just to the left, and they will assist with the transfer.
Because Barbados is relatively close to the mainland United States, flight times are shorter than for some of the southern Caribbean Islands. For example, flights out of Miami to Grantley Adam Airport are only about 3 hours and 45 minutes long and operate every day.
The airplanes can fly overhead as they land, but we never had an issue with noise or anything.
