For those that want to sit in the lap of luxury while still experiencing those Jamaican vibes we all crave, look no further than Sandals Dunn’s River. The resort just opened in 2023 as the newest Sandals Resort in Jamaica.

My wife and I went last year and it quickly became our favorite adults-only resort. The location in Ocho Rios is so lush and green, surrounded by beautiful mountains, and pristine white sand beaches.

With 260 rooms, it’s just big enough, but not so big that it’s overrun with guests. There’s still that feeling of intimacy that’s ideal for romantic vacations.

We stayed in the swim-up Coyaba Rondoval Villas that have a rooftop terrace. Not only was the room incredible, but it came with a dedicated butler (shout out to Tiana) that went above and beyond to make sure our time there was unforgettable.

Although it’s a 5-star resort, the value is unbeatable. Once you book your room, there are no taxes, fees, or even tipping! You get unlimited dining, drinks, airport transfers, water activities, scuba diving, great entertainment, spa treatments, and free golf. Best of all, you also get access to Sandals Ochi right next door so it’s like two vacations in one!

Pro Tip: You can now fly directly into Ocho Rios from Miami every Wednesday and Saturday. The airport is only 20 minutes away from the resort. If you fly into Montego Bay, I recommend getting the Club MoBay fast track service so you get through customs much faster and they have a nice VIP lounge for your departure.

"We stayed for 7 nights and we already booked our return trip before leaving. The beach is incredible and the staff are so welcoming. The restaurants are the best I have had at an all-inclusive. The surrounding nature is beautiful with places like Dunn's River Falls only 10 minutes away too. It truly deserves the five star reputation!"

  • You need a valid passport for 6 months beyond your departure date and complete the online immigration form.
  • The Ocho Rios area is safe as it’s rated a Level 2 Travel Advisory out of 4 Levels by the Department Of State.  We never felt unsafe on our excursions or around the resort.

No shoes, no shirt, no problem. That’s the feeling around Negril. Don’t get me wrong, Sandals Negril is a top-tier all-inclusive resort, but it’s very laid back.

The specific location on Seven Mile Beach is incredible. In my opinion, this is the best beach in Jamaica. The white sand is silky smooth under your feet. The water is listerine blue and very calm. I also like it because there are pretty much no vendors walking around so you can relax.

All of the rooms and pools are right on the beachfront so you are always just steps away from the sea. The resort features very cool accommodations like the SkyPool Suites or Swim-Up Suites. We stayed in one of the swim-up suites which I would highly recommend!

Another unique feature is the motorized water sports. Most resorts don’t offer motorized water sports like skiing, wakeboarding, or tubing, but it’s included here. That’s in addition to scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and glass bottom boat rides.

Lastly, the sunsets here are iconic. The sky glows hues of orange and pink as the sun sinks into the horizon. Do yourself a favor and get dinner at the Barefoot By The Sea restaurant around 6:00 PM for the best panoramic views.

Why We Love Sandals Negril:

  • Located along the famous 7-Mile Beach, the resort is designed to celebrated the waters edge.
  • A more laid back atmosphere as compered to spots like Montego Bay. It feels more authentic here.
  • Choose from 8 different specialty restaurants.
  • Premium drinks at 5 bars and 2 swim-up bars.
  • Tons of included activities with scuba diving, snorkeling wakeboarding, skiing, tubing, beach volleyball, and more.
  • Take a couple of hours to check out Rick’s Cafe and go cliff jumping 😎.
  • Fantastic accommodations for all budgets. I especially love the beachfront swim-up suites here.
  • Excellent nightly entertainment and live shows.

Key Considerations For Sandals Negril:

  • Located on the west coast, Sandals Negril is a little over an hour drive from the Sangster International Airport (MBJ) in Montego Bay.  Your stay includes a free transfer both ways.
  • It’s one of the more affordable options in Jamaica starting at just $240 per person per night, especially when you consider everything that’s included.
  • If you’re going for an anniversary or honeymoon, feel free to contact us to get more freebies!

Who It’s Best For:

Sandals Negril is ideal for couples wanting a more laid back, authentic, Jamaican experience. The beach here is the best beach in Jamaica with pristine white sand and calm azure waters.

Number Of Rooms:

Distance From Airport:

The 14 acre Rio Chico Estate is one of the most exclusive properties in all of Jamaica. Once you pass through the gates and step foot on this storied property you will be blown away by the manicured lawn, flowing waterfalls, italian stone, and billowing palms. Most importantly, the private beaches are absolutely stunning.

Everything is included. There are private butlers and an executive chef to wait on your beck and call. Some other benefits include beachside infinity pools, jacuzzis, sailboats, paddleboards, kayaks, tennis courts, and a fitness center.

World-class meals are served up throughout the day whether you want to eat in the formal dining room or at one of the many outdoor spots. There’s one secluded patio tucked away by the babbling streams that’s perfect for a romantic dinner.

The property is split between the 6-bedroom Manor House, two Cliff-Side 2-Bedroom Villas, and a Cliff-Side 2-Bedroom Cottage. All of them feature open air spaces where the indoor seamlessly transitions to the outdoors to provide magnificent Caribbean views.

This is the best option for groups because you get the entire property to yourself. If you have up to 12 guests, you will stay in the primary Manor House. If you have more people, you will get each additional villa for up to 24 people total. For example, you can book the main villa for about $59,000 for five nights (they have a 5 night minimum). It seems expensive, but that is $983 per night per person if you have 12 people, which is not too bad considering it is an all out luxury experience.

Why We Love Rio Chico:

  • The most exclusive property in all of Jamaica.
  • Includes 2 private white sand beaches with loungers and water activities.
  • Staffed with a private chef, sous chef, and dedicated butler service.
  • All-inclusive food and premium drinks included in the price.
  • Stunning landscaping with Italian stone, waterfalls, manicured lawn.
  • Beautiful cliffside infinity pools overlooking the sea.
  • Onsite tennis and basketball courts.
  • 24 hour security on the property.

Key Considerations For Rio Chico:

  • The minimum night stay here is 5 nights. The price will vary depending on the date and number of guests.
  • The property can accommodate up to 24 people. The main house will hold up to 12 people, and the additional 3 villas can hold up to 4 people each.
  • The all inclusive package is an additional $250 per person per night, or you can pay for the food and drinks as you go. You can also add airport transfers that are $120 per person up to 6 people (and $25 for each additional person)

Who It’s Best For:

The Rio Chico Private estate is best for people that demand the ultimate in luxury and privacy. Alternatively, it’s ideal for groups of up to 24 people as the price is not so onerous if it’s split between all of the guests.

4. Sandals Royal Caribbean

MONTEGO BAY, JAMAICA

My favorite adults-only resort in Montego Bay is the Sandals Royal Caribbean. This unique property fuses Jamaican charm with British glamour. It underwent a massive renovation following Hurricane Melissa so everything is now immaculate.

Here they have a private offshore island with Bali inspired overwater bungalows. The island also features the new Parisol Beach Club, a pool with swim-up bar, and fantastic beaches. There’s a quick water shuttle that takes you out there.

Importantly, you get access to Sandals Montego Bay which is only 5 minutes away and you get free transfers. Choose from 21 restaurants, 11 bars, and 14 pools in total!

That’s why Royal Caribbean is an ideal option for couples. Not only because Sandals are specifically designed for romantic occasions, but because this property is more cozy, and if you want more action, you can always go over to the Montego Bay location for a bit.

Additionally you can add a couples massage, candlelight dinner, or sunset catamaran cruise. My wife and I did the Scents Of Love couples massage in the beachside cabana and it was a life changing experience.

Why We Love Sandals Royal Caribbean:

  • The private offshore island experience is something you can’t find anywhere else in Jamaica. It’s complete with a beach club, pool, and white sand beaches.
  • My favorite overwater bungalows that feature glass bottom floors, private pools, floating hammock, and private butler service.
  • A very tranquil and private white sand beach.
  • Shared access to all all of the restaurants, bars, and pools at Sandals Montego Bay.
  • Live nightly entertainment including fire dancers, beach parties, reggae, silent discos, and more.
  • The newly renovated property now has a huge main pool, new restaurant concepts, and update suites.

Key Considerations For Sandals Royal Caribbean:

  • The Royal Caribbean is one of the easiest Sandals Resorts to get to because the flight time is only about 90 minutes from Miami and the resort is 10 minutes from the airport. Transfers are included no matter what room you get.
  • Since the resort is so close to the airport I was a little concerned about airplane noise, but it was not an issue at all.
  • Montego Bay is the biggest tourist hub in Jamaica, so if you want a more laid back environment, check the Sandals Negril or South Coast. That said, the Royal Caribbean is an intentionally intimate resort property where you can relax in peace.

Who It’s Best For:

Sandals Royal Caribbean is best for couples that want an intimate 5-star resort that’s designed specifically for romantic getaways. Being located in Montego Bay, it’s also very easy to access and is only 10 minutes away from the airport.

5. Sandals Ochi

Number Of Pools:

Sandals Ochi is my go-to choice for an all-inclusive on a budget. I have been here three times now and l’ll preface this by saying it’s still a 5-star resort so don’t be fooled by the affordable price tag!

The resort is situated in a massive 100 acre tropical paradise. On one end of the beach you’ll find butler villas and water toys like kayaks, paddleboards, and hobie cats that are free to use – on the other end of the beach is the Ochi Beach Club with a pool, swim-up bar, and live entertainment.

This package is designed for a totally stress-free vacation. They include airport transfers, unlimited top-shelf drinks, meals and snacks, water sports, scuba diving, and a no tipping policy. For golf aficionados, you have free golf greens fees at the beautiful Upton Estate Country Club. But wait, there’s more. You can access all of the amenities at the neighboring Sandals Dunn’s River too.

Overall, Ochi is amongst the least expensive of the all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica, yet it still offers lavish accommodations and huge value when you unpack everything that you get. That’s coming from someone who has pretty high standards!

Why We Love Sandals Ochi:

  • Choose between 17 different restaurants from Japanese Teppanyaki to Spanish tapas, and everything in between. (Sandals Dunn’s River has 12 additional restaurants)
  • Top-shelf drinks at 11 different bars, including 3 swim-up bars and a speakeasy
  • The Ochi Beach Club is perfect for a day of lounging seaside. Our server Panda was a hoot.
  • Free golfing at the Upton Estate Country Club.
  • Full access to neighboring Sandals Dunn’s River.
  • Water sports like scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, paddle boarding, and more.
  • A one-of-a-kind overwater wedding chapel and other beautiful venues perfect for a destination wedding.

Key Considerations For Sandals Ochi:

  • Montego Bay Airport (MBJ) is the most common airport which is about a 75 minute transfer to the resort. You can also get the Club MoBay pass for a personal escort through customs much faster, which is $85 per person.
  • Although the resort is a bit bigger with 519 rooms, there are still plenty of spots to find privacy when you want. That’s a big reasons I really enjoy this resort.
  • Passports need to be valid for 6 months after your visit. US visitors do not need to worry about visas, however.
  • The surrounding nature is stunning. I recommend doing the Martha Brae bamboo river rafting, the Blue Hole, or Dunn’s River Falls for a day trip! If you do Dunn’s River falls and plan of walking the falls you should bring water shoes.

Who It’s Best For:

Ochi is ideal for those on a tighter budget, but don’t want to sacrifice quality since this is still a 5-star all-inclusive resort. In fact, it’s usually one of the cheapest adults-only option on the island.

6. Excellence Oyster Bay

FALMOUTH, JAMAICA

Jamaica All Inclusive Resorts Adults Only _ Excellence Oyster Bay

Cost Per Night:

$520 Per Night

Number Of Rooms:

315 Rooms

Distance From Airport:

23 Miles

Number Of Restaurants:

12 Restaurants

Resort Mood:

Luxury

Number Of Pools:

Excellence Oyster Bay is one of the more unique properties in that it’s located on its own private peninsula. Therefore, just about every room has great views of the azure waters that surround it. This adults only gem is technically in Trelawny which is a 35 minute drive from the Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay.

The rooms here are spacious and very well kept. We had a beachfront house suite with a plunge pool which was fantastic. Having your own pool on the patio is really a game changer.

There’s tons of activities to choose from whether it’s snorkeling through the mangroves or paddleboarding along the coastline. Tamayo in the water sports hut went out of his way to make sure we had an amazing time on the beach. I’ll say the entertainment could have been better, but we did enjoy the beach parties and karaoke.

Excellence Oyster Bay offers 12  world class restaurants, 7 bars, and a rooftop lounge with rooftop pool.  The Lobster House is always my favorite when we go there, but there are other favorites like the Jerk Hut and Magna.

This is an important note though!  The resort has the “Excellent Club” where you get access to additional restaurants, pools, and lounges – plus some other perks. You just need to book an Excellence Club Suite, which costs around $75 more per night.

Why We Love Excellence Oyster Bay:

  • There are 12 different restaurants. Some of the restaurants have a dress code  for dinner (like Magna and Zenith) which means you need to wear pants and a collared shirt and can’t wear flip flops.
  • The beach is well maintained and there are plenty of places to sit with umbrellas.
  • There are 5 pools around the resort. One large main pool with a swim up bar. On the other side is a smaller pool. Then there’s a rooftop infinity pool that offers fantastic views. That is in addition to the two Excellence Club pools.
  • The Miile Spa is very nice with a great hydrotherapy pool.
  • The location on the tip of a private peninsula makes for panoramic views from just about anywhere on the resort.

Key Considerations For Excellence Oyster Bay:

  • You will fly into the Sangster International Airport (MBJ) and the resort is about 35 minutes away.
  • Free airport transfers are possible if you book directly through the Excellence website for 3 or more nights with only a suite (no flights). If not, the roundtrip transfer is $258 for two people.
  • Tipping is not included unlike some other adult-only resort options where everything is included.
  • They have different room categories for the Excellence Club and regular suites that allow access to different parts of the resort – a private beach, private pool, and private restaurant and lounge. It costs around $75 extra per night to get an Excellence Club Suite, which I have mixed feelings about.

Who It’s Best For:

Excellence Oyster Bay is best for guests that want a unique all-inclusive experience on a private peninsula in the outskirts of Montego Bay. The private beach and rooftop pools are a must see.

When people think of Jamaica, Montego Bay frequently comes to mind since it’s the most popular tourist hub on the island. Rightfully so since there’re so many white sand beaches and a buzzing nightlife.

Sandals was founded in Jamaica over 40 years ago so they had the ability to cherry pick the very best locations before the competition came in. Enter Sandals Montego Bay, situated on the longest private white sand beach in Jamaica. There are plenty of thatched umbrellas to comfortably relax under the Caribbean sun.

After renovations to the property over the last year, there’s a brand new main pool that is the epicenter of the resort. New swim-up suites and restaurants were also added as part of the updated Sandals 2.0 initiative. I especially love that the rooms are spotless when we visit.

The resort always has something going on whether it’s a beach party or live music. My favorite was the silent disco night, but the event calendar is constantly changing. If you want a more laid back vibe, Negril or Ocho Rios might be better. If you want a more social atmosphere, Sandals Montego Bay is the place to be.

The added bonus is that Montego Bay has a lot of flights that are usually pretty cheap. Then the resort is only 10 minutes away from the airport so you can be relaxing on the beach in no time! Like I mentioned earlier, I always advise to get the Club MoBay fast track pass so you get through customs much faster.

Why We Love Sandals Montego Bay:

  • The largest private white sand beach in Jamaica with plenty of thatched roof cabanas and lounge chairs.
  • Choose from 9 delectable restaurants like Buccan and Butch’s Steak House. Reservations are not required at any of them!
  • A brand new main pool accompanied by the Parisol Beach Club.
  • A variety of different suites to choose from whether it’s the Beachfront Swim-Up Suite or an entry level a Caribbean Deluxe Room, there’s something at all price points. The nice thing is that most of the rooms here have really good sea views.
  • All the water sports you can imagine including wakeboarding, water skiing, scuba diving,  kayaking, snorkeling.
  • Unlimited fine dining and drinks all day with a stocked bar in every room.
  • Tennis courts and 4 dedicated pickleball courts.
  • Beach parties, special events, DJs, and live shows every night.

Key Considerations For Sandals Montego Bay:

  • The resort is only 10 minutes from the Montego Bay airport and transfers are included.
  • Montego Bay is known for it’s nightlife scene, so while the resort itself is very exclusive, the city has several night clubs, cocktail lounges, and beach clubs worth checking out.
  •  Once you pay for your booking, you are all set!  There is no tipping, fees, or taxes. You can practically leave your wallet at home!

Who It’s Best For:

Sandals Montego Bay is the perfect resort for adults that want a resort that’s quick to get to and offers a world-class beach. Montego Bay has more of a social atmosphere that comes to life after the sun goes down, which is exactly what some folks are looking for.

8. Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay

Perhaps Jamaica’s best kept secret is the serene town of Runaway Bay situated on the north coast of the island. The all-inclusive Bahia Principe Escape is a top rated adults-only resort nestled within a private bay.

The beach here is expansive with a lot of loungers so you never have an issue finding a spot. The staff is very attentive to bring you drinks and snacks while relaxing by the beach or poolside. They also offer snorkeling, kayaks, windsurfing, and parasailing free of charge (albeit for only one hour per day).

There are 5 restaurants and 3 bars (including a swim-up bar) to choose from. At night they come to life with entertainment like live reggae music. After all, you’re right next to Bob Marly’s hometown. One nice touch is that every room comes with 24‑hour room service, which isn’t the case at a lot of all-inclusive options.

The cool thing with this resort is it is separated into two parts, one side is for all ages (Bahia Principe Explore) and the other side is adults only. When you stay at the adult’s only side, you have access to all of the restaurants and amenities on the other side as well!

I appreciated that the rooms here are surprisingly spacious. A lot of them have huge patios that offer panoramic views of the sea. The spa style bathrooms featured walk-in showers and jacuzzi style tubs, which is a nice touch.

Why We Love Bahia Principe:

  • I love how large the rooms are here and most of them have great views of the Caribbean. The spa style bathrooms are also a nice touch.
  • Unlimited food, a la carte dinners, and drinks. Note that reservations and semi-formal dress is required for dinner.
  • They offer 24 hour room service which can come in handy.
  • Water activities like snorkeling, kayaks, and windsurfing are included for free.
  • This resort is part of the World Of Hyatt so you can use points towards your stay here (or earn points for your booking).
  • Runaway Bay is one of the most naturally beautiful locations in Jamaica. We went to the green grotto caves which is the largest cave system on the island filled with stalagmites and stalactites. I highly recommend checking it out.

Key Considerations For Bahia Principe:

  • The resort is about 1 hour 15 minutes from the Montego Bay airport. Transfers are NOT included here which tend to be about $70 per person.
  • Tipping is not included and most of the servers here won’t ask for a tip but it’s definitely appreciated.
  • Lunch leaves a little bit to be desired as they only have the two buffets open. They are really good, but it would be nice to have some additional options.

Who It’s Best For:

Runaway Bay is an under the radar gem of Jamaica that features stunning natural landscape. The Bahia Principe Escape Runaway Bay is a great fit for people that want an adults-only resort a little off the beaten path that offers great bang for the buck.

Tips To Save On Your Jamaican Vacation

Here are the best tips I have so you can get your Jamaican all-inclusive adults-only vacation without breaking the bank.

  • Travel Dates: The best deals for resorts and flights are during the low season from May to November. During this time you can get deeply discounted rates.
  • Last Minute Deals: If you are flexible, most resorts have last minute deals where they will sell rooms to fill the last minute gaps in occupancy.
  • Seasonal Deals: Resorts frequently have seasonal deals whether it’s Black Friday or other sales that come up. Check the websites or contact your travel advisor to ensure your not missing out.
  • Service Member Discount: Several resorts offer military discounts, in addition to first responders, firefighters, and police.
  • Room Levels: Resorts always have different room levels. Some folks don’t mind if the room has no ocean view or does not have the bells and whistles of a high priced suite. This is an easy way to save a solid chunk of money.
  • Number Of Nights: A lot of times the longer you stay the more benefits you get. There are often bigger discounts and perks like free activities, resort credits, airline credits, etc.
  • Anniversary Discounts: A lot of times the adult-only resorts will have a promotion for your wedding anniversary. For example, Sandals Resorts gives a free night when you stay for 7 nights or more for your anniversary. A really good deal!

A lot of folks have no idea most of these deals exist when we talk with them! Don’t hesitate to contact us to make sure you get the absolute best price for your next Jamaica vacation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best adult all inclusive in Jamaica?

The best overall adult all inclusive resort in Jamaica on a budget is Sandals Ochi. Additionally, the highest rated option for couples is Sandals Royal Caribbean while the best for a luxury resort is Sandals Dunn’s River. Deciding which one is best for your needs depends on your budget, the occasion, and the type of ambiance you prefer. That said, it’s hard to go wrong with any of the above choices because they are all 5-star resorts on world-class beaches!

What locations are best for all-inclusive adults only resorts in Jamaica?

The biggest tourist destination in Jamaica is Montego Bay. Here you can find iconic white sand beaches with a bustling night life. Other popular destinations include Negril, which is an old fishing village on the west coast of the island known for it’s laid back atmosphere. Lastly, Ocho Rios on the north coast is famous for its natural beauty including Dunn’s River Falls, rain forest covered mountains, and vibrant floral. All three of these locations have several adults only resorts from brands like Sandals Resorts, Secrets, or Excellence.

Are all-inclusive resorts worth it in Jamaica?

Most people agree that all-inclusive resorts are worth it when it comes to stress-free vacations and getting the best value. Although some resorts might be cheaper upfront, by the time you pay for all of the transportation, food, drinks, activities, and entertainment the price tends to be significantly higher than all-inclusive options.

What is the cheapest time of year to go to Jamaica?

The cheapest time to go to Jamaica is in low season between May to November. This time of year has higher precipitation and is humid, but there is still plenty of sun to be had. If you plan on going in September and October it is highly recommended to purchase travel insurance just in case of tropical storms or hurricanes. Conversely, the high season is generally December to April when the sunshine is most consistent and temperatures and pleasant.

Are all-inclusive resorts in Jamaica safe to visit?

Jamaica is currently rated a Level 2 Travel Advisory by the US Department Of State, which is out of 4 Levels. Highly trafficked tourist locations are generally very safe. If you plan to travel to Jamaica it is advised to avoid remote places and to be aware of your surroundings. The resort properties themselves will generally have gated entrances with 24 hour security making them very safe for guests. Consult the State Department’s website for the latest updates and alerts.
