Consistently rated one of the world’s most romantic resorts, we were stunned not only by St. Lucia itself, but also by the natural beauty of the resort.
Positioned on a secluded peninsula, Sandals Grande St. Lucian offers an island experience unlike anything found in the Caribbean. From the moment you enter the lobby you’re greeted with a panoramic view of the ocean and lush mountains waiting for you!
With the famous Rodney Bay on one side and awe-inspiring volcanic twin Piton mountains on the other, the resort is a true tropical oasis.
The private beach stretches for over a mile. I love that it has fine white sand without any rocks or pebbles, which is kind of rare in St. Lucia particularly.
The exclusive accommodations include Overwater Bungalows, Rondoval Villas, and Swim-up Suites to create a picture-perfect retreat for couples looking for tranquility and romance. Note that this is the only St. Lucia Sandals that offers Overwater Bungalows.
Whether basking in the zero-entry pool or dining at any of the twelve restaurants, the beauty of Saint Lucia made it one of our favorite locations.
The best part, it’s all-inclusive! Food, drinks, minibar, watersports, and more. You don’t have to worry about any hidden charges or tipping at checkout!
What makes Sandals Grande St. Lucian our number one pick:
- On its own peninsula, the resort delivers 360-degree ocean views.
- Luxurious accommodations include Overwater Bungalows and Rondoval suites.
- Includes access to both nearby St. Lucia Sandals with the Stay at One, Play at Three program (Sandals Regency La Toc and Sandals Halcyon Beach)
- Free greens fees at two distinctive, Greg Norman-designed golf courses nearby.
- A mile-long white sand beach is perfect for sunny strolls alongside crystal-clear blue waters.
- Motorized water sports like skiing, wakeboarding, and tubing are included.
- Culinary adventures await with 12 specialty restaurants providing global flavors (27 restaurants when including the two other resorts).
- Step out into Rodney Bay’s renowned night life Friday if you want to spice it up a little. The Friday night street parties in Gros-Islet were one of my favorite experiences.
Key considerations for Sandals Grande St. Lucian:
- The resort is an adults-only destination, ideal for couples seeking privacy.
- The complimentary transfers to and from Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) airport took us a little over an hour.
- Note that the George F.L. Charles airport now has limited direct flights, which is only about 20 minutes from the St. Lucia Sandals resorts.
- Helicopter transfers are available for an additional cost for an expedited arrival.
- Be sure to book excursions (snorkeling, catamaran, zipline, volcanic hot springs, and more) in advance to ensure you don’t miss out on the most popular island experiences.
Who It’s Best For:
Perfect for couples celebrating their honeymoon or special occasion who want to get the full St. Lucia experience at an affordable price.

Settled along a two-mile beach in Jamaica, Sandals South Coast stands out for its European-inspired architecture. Designed to celebrate the water’s edge, the resort is a haven for those seeking a seaside escape.
The South Coast resort includes the famous overwater bungalow villas that are so popular. It also has an ideal destination wedding location with its unique overwater wedding chapel.
Unlike some of the other resorts on the list, this one is located within a massive 500 acre nature preserve so it is truly secluded. It makes for great excursions to locations like the beautiful 7 tiered YS Falls.
South Coast is also one of the more affordable Sandals Resorts with rates starting at just $186 per person/per night. Since it is located in Jamaica, it is also one of the most easily accessible for flights.
Expert Tip: If your flight arrives into Montego Bay (MBJ) in the afternoon, I highly recommend getting a Club Mobay pass that so you can get through customs within 10 minutes and have access to their exclusive lounge to hangout in for your return flight. Montego Bay Airport can get pretty busy with all the arrivals, so this is an easy way to save time and stress. The pass only costs $85 per person, but slots are limited, so get it as far in advance as possible.
Overall, it is the embodiment of an oceanfront luxury, set in a natural paradise.
What we love about Sandals South Coast:

- You can enjoy various water sports (scuba, wake board, paddle boards, etc) or just relax by one of the four pools and swim up bars.
- Get a more authentic Jamaican vibe of reggae and rum with tours of old rum estates.
Key considerations for Sandals South Coast:
- The primary airport is the Montego Bay Sangster International Airport (MBJ), which is about an hour away from the South Coast resort. Transfers both ways are included, however.
- The local currency is the Jamaican Dollar, but the US Dollar is widely accepted, in addition to most major credit cards.
- Rainy season is generally from May to November while the dry season runs from December to April. You can get better prices during the rainy season (hurricane season) if you are open to the occasional rain sprinkle.
- Make sure to dress appropriately for your night as some restaurants require collared shirts and pants.
Who It’s Best For:
The Sandals South Coast Resort is best for those that want a more authentic Jamaican experience intertwined with expansive ecotourism options.

How We Do Our Sandals Resort Rankings
Our rankings are based on first hand experience and analysis of the resorts we have stayed at. That said, all travel experiences are personal. We hope that our insider knowledge will serve as guideposts to help plan your next Caribbean vacation. Our criteria include:
Average Price: We look at the average price for staying at any given resort compared to average price of similar resorts. We also contrast the average price against the included amenities to provide a gauge of overall value.
Location: We look at the accessibility of the resort in terms of flight time to the island, and transfer times from the airport. We also consider the overall safety ratings of the locations.
Service Rating: A hotel’s star rating (5-star) is a good indicator of quality. We also look at general cleanliness, food preparation, and attention to details.
Client Satisfaction: We always take into consideration the realtime feedback we get from our clients who are vacationing at the properties throughout the year.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the peak seasons to plan a budget-friendly trip?
The peak seasons for Sandals Resorts typically revolve around winter and summer holidays. The busiest months for the year are between December and March. For more budget-friendly options, look to travel during the slower seasons, such as late spring or fall, when rates are generally lower. The lowest prices of the year can be had in September and October.
What unique experiences do Sandals Resorts include for their guests?
Sandals Resorts provide an all inclusive experience. These range from gourmet dining and beautiful beaches to Scuba diving and water sports. Each location has its own special offerings. Some resorts are perfect for foodies, while others might be the ideal choice for nature seekers or beach lovers. The best part is no tipping is allowed!
What is the newest Sandals Resort location?
The newest Sandals Resort location is Sandals St. Vincent which just opened in March of 2024. As opposed to being an existing property that was renovated and re-opened, Sandals St. Vincent is a completely new property. The most recently renovated properties are Sandals Dunn’s River and Sandals Royal Curacao.
How can I determine the perfect Sandals Resort for my needs?
To find the Sandals Resort that aligns most closely with your preferences, consider what elements are most important to you, such as dining options, activities, or proximity to the airport. Some resorts, like Sandals Grenada, are renowned for their unique design and luxury. While others the resorts located in Jamaica are quick to get to from the United States. Take our Resort Match Quiz to help find the right fit!
Are Sandals Resorts safe to visit?
Yes, Sandals Resorts are absolutely safe to visit no matter which location you visit. All Sandals feature high-tech surveillance systems that are monitored 24 hours a day and have gated access with ample security professionals. It is worth noting that none of the islands and cities that a Sandals is located in has a “do not travel” advisory from the US State Department. I never felt unsafe at or around any Sandals Resort, but I always recommend taking common sense precautions that one would do when traveling abroad at any location, like traveling in groups, using certified transportation, and avoiding poorly lit areas at night.
